Waves of Faith-November 17, 2017

Many people think about saying Grace at Thanksgiving but I hope that the holiday of Thanksgiving will prompt all of us to consider how to say grace every day. Every time we sit down to a meal we have the chance to pause and remember the many gifts in our lives. Every mealtime offers us a “time out” from our busy schedule. The decision we make whenever we pull up to the table is whether to make this event ordinary or sacred. If we decide to we can create a sacred moment several times a day. Praying before we eat gives us the opportunity to align our hearts to the God’s  heart beating inside us.

Here are some ways to think about saying thanks not just one day of the year but everyday.

  1. -Say a prayer that the food you eat will fuel your mind and body to serve God   each day.
  2. -Pause before you eat to remember the hungry.
  3. -Pray for course correction, and new ideas about how to live in light of Christ’s   example.
  4. -Pray for your family - the people at your table, and the people you love in other places that as you eat you may feel connected spiritually.
  5. -Pray for someone who may be missing from your table for whatever reason.
  6. -Pray for those who are sick.
  7. -Pray for the lonely.
  8. -Pray for those who now feast with God as saints in God’s kingdom.
  9. -Pray for a quiet heart and mind in a noisy world.
  10. -Pray for hope, that your meal may nourish your spirit along with your body.

Here are prayers for Thanksgiving Day:

Our Father in Heaven,
We give thanks for the pleasure
Of gathering together for this occasion.
We give thanks for this food
Prepared by loving hands.
We give thanks for life,
The freedom to enjoy it all
And all other blessings.
As we partake of this food,
We pray for health and strength
To carry on and try to live as You would have us.
This we ask in the name of Christ,
Our Heavenly Father.
