OUR MINISTRY
A FRIENDLY CHURCH. Greeters meet worshipers as they arrive and reflect the friendly, welcoming spirit that prevails at Pilgrim Church. After the service, visitors are invited to Monbleau Hall for fellowship, coffee and conversation.
The sanctuary is equipped with a hearing assistance system and is handicapped accessible. Large-print bulletins are also available.
A CARING CHURCH. We have an active Care Committee whose members keep in touch with Church members in their neighborhoods. Pastoral counseling is provided by appointment with the Minister.
Our "Light the Steeple" program presents a unique way in which to remember a loved one or commemorate a special event. The steeple and its light are the Harwich Port landmark for mariners on Nantucket Sound.
A CHURCH IN COMMUNITY. Pilgrim Church is an important force within the community, with members providing volunteer and financial support for the Harwich Ecumenical Council for the Homeless (HECH), Harwich Ecumenical Youth Ministries (HEYM), the Family Pantry, the Cape Council of Churches Thrift Shop, Habitat for Humanity, Lower Cape Outreach Council, The Salvation Army's Overnights of Hospitality (overnight shelter for the homeless at community churches) and other service opportunities. The Church conducts special offerings for Worldwide Missions, including "One Great Hour of Sharing" and "Neighbors in Need."
A MUSICAL CHURCH. Music plays an important part in the spiritual life of our church. Our Chancel Choir participates in worship, community concerts and many other special programs. New voices are always welcome. At Easter, we have a Sunrise Bank Street Beach Service. In the Summer, there's Jazz Sunday and a Summer Sundays concert series. There's even a popular "Pilgrim Pops" Concert every Labor Day weekend. All are open to the public.
Our Bell Choir welcomes ringers of all ages, with or without experience.
A CHURCH IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION. Pilgrim Church offers many opportunities for Christian Education. Classes from preschool through high school are taught on Sunday mornings, including a Confirmation class for seventh and eighth graders. Adult classes are available, also, and Pilgrim Church has worked with other local churches to combine religious study classes.
A GATHERING PLACE. Pilgrim Women's Fellowship, Pilgrim Men's Club and Pilgrim Youth Fellowship, along with special luncheons and dinners are some of the many fellowship opportunities offered to our members and friends. In addition, the facilities at Pilgrim Church are available to community groups. Application is made to and approved by the Trustees. The church is a member of the Harwich Chamber of Commerce, a connection that facilitates community outreach.
A CHURCH THAT NEEDS MEMBER SUPPORT. Pilgrim Church needs member support to maintain our ministries and to carry on our mission to do God's work in our community. A member should show support by attending church services and appropriate meetings and by providing leadership on boards or committees. Another type of support is financial and is reflected in the stewardship pledge.
A CHURCH FOR ALL. Our by-laws state: "Any person desirous of receiving and participating in the Ministry of the Church may become a regular member who, through the Love of God and devotion to the spirit and truth revealed in Jesus Christ, desires to live in accordance with His teachings and serve His way of life in human society." Our intent is to serve spiritual needs and to provide activities that will create new friendships and interests that will enrich our lives. We are an intergenerational congregation that wishes to enlarge and enhance our ministry as well as our membership. Our growing church, church school and adult education programs reflect a vibrant ministry for all generations.
